Distributed production or micro-generation is when the consumer (whether it is a company or an individual) is responsible for the generation of his/her own energy by using small-scale equipment, namely solar panels, micro-turbines, micro wind-generators or another type of technology.
The energy produced can be used to heat water or to produce electricity which is sold back into the distribution network.

Consumption simulator for customers
In our customer area, we have made available a simulator which is especially dedicated to electricity consumption. EDP customers can now analyze their home’s electricity use in a practical and easy way.

The results obtained will allow you to see the clear advantages associated with the wise use of equipment and appliances and the choice of the dual tariff billing program.

Dual tariff
With dual tariff, EDP customers can determine which pricing program is best for them according to the times when they use electricity.

Whereas the simple tariff system is used by the majority of customers and charges the same for power at any time, the dual tariff features two billing periods: off-peak hours (with cheaper rates) and peak hours.
Basically, if the customer decides on a dual tariff with cheaper night and weekend rates, the monthly electricity bills will indeed be less.

When signing up, you can choose two plans: the weekend cycle, which offers lower rates only at the weekend, or the daily cycle which only offers lower rates at night, throughout the week.

Air-conditioning and heating

For six years, EDP has been promoting an annual campaign for heat accumulators for residential customers. This type of heating can be a good alternative for larger heating systems, in special situations. In association with several brands which manufacture this type of equipment, EDP backs the use of heat accumulators since it enables people to use electricity wisely. When used with the dual tariff, heat accumulators can afford up to 45% savings on electricity in off-peak hours when compared with other equipment used during the day for home heating.

Thanks to this campaign, EDP customers can benefit from special conditions when purchasing these heating units, from a 10% discount on purchase to total financing.
